Rotorua 2. No.3 Cote D'or (u/p) - Has been beaten at her last 2 starts by talented horses.
Expecting her to land in a good spot here and be hard to run down. Danger - No.8
Sisterella. Could well be the best horse going forward, however 1200m is possibly shorter
than she's looking for. (u/p)
Rockhampton 4. No.4 Bold Kingston (1st) - Beaten on debut by a smart 2yo.
Has since trialled well, with natural improvement and the addition of
blinkers he'll be hard to beat.Danger - No.12 The Bank Manager (u/p).
Trialled very well showing high speed. Sure to give a big sight in front, the last 100m could be the worry.
1st $6.30 Cranbourne 3. No.9 Tracey's Star - Trialled really well in NZ before coming to Australia.
Expecting him to go forward here and be hard to run down. 1st $4.80

Avondale Race 3 No. 3 Ready to Romance - Potentially the best horse in this race
and if she runs to her trial in September she'll be winning.
3rd Avondale Race 5. No.9 Adis (3rd) - Showed well above average ability at her last trial.
Wide barrier 1st start is always a concern but happy to back her talent and 1400m is
a nice starting point. The danger - No.7 Luana Mana (2nd0. Another filly i feel is above average.
Ran well below expectations at her 1st start albeit in a strong form race. With natural
improvement if she finds her trial form she will be in the finish.

2016 Melbourne Cup
It doesn't get any harder than this race. Trying to tie in form from
England,Ireland,France,Germany,Japan and Australia is near impossible and
trying to compare handicap races to WFA and set weight races makes it more
complex. The hardest part is comparing the handicaps with set weight races in
Europe. In Europe many of the set weight Group races are walkathons with very
small fields. They will walk the majority of the race and then start winding up
and sprinting either from the 600, 800 or even 1000m mark. The form from these
races can be suspect and when these horses get in a large field with genuine pace
they can flounder.
I have tried to dissect the overseas form as much as I can and believe that Heartbreak City
has a good chance. His run last start in the Ebor Hcp was excellent. He settled just off a
genuine pace and cruised into the race in the straight before putting a gap in them. Oceanographer
finished more than 9 lengths away although he was checked in the straight which probably cost him
a couple of lengths (even if it cost him 5 lengths that is still a big margin). Heartbreak City's
previous 2 starts were wins over hurdles and his previous flat form was average but many of those races
were walkathons. I can only go on his last start and believe if he repeats that run he will be very
competitive. I can get form comparisons with almost all the overseas runners and he comes out on
top. If he doesn't repeat last start then he will struggle. Worth the EW bet at current odds.
Of the locally trained horses I have narrowed it down to Hartnell,Jaemka and Almandin. Hartnell is
class but I have a concern that his 2 runs in Australia at 3200m have been flops even though
excuses have been made. He has trained off the longer he went into his prep every time in
Australia and that doubt stops me from backing him at the odds.
Jameka is untried at the distance. Her barrier will help her and if it is a moderate tempo she can
figure as I believe that she can stay. But if it is at a very fast tempo which is a distinct
possibility she may struggle. Almandin has been racing well against lesser company. This will be
his acid test but bred to get the distance strongly. The Japanese horse Curren Mirotic is at
his best at greater than 3000m. He is 9yo (8yo in Japan) but only had 37 starts. He has placed at
the most prestigious 3200m G1 race in Japan in the last 2 years and comes in to today on exactly
the same prep. He is an on-pace grinder and whilst he doesn't possess a super sprint he
is capable of running them into the ground, or alternatively being the 1st horse beaten!
All 4 of the above have to be good place chances. For trifecta and first four players it is hard
to leave out horses like Big Orange,Wicklow Brave and Oceanographer and even
Who Shot Thebarman if it is a very fast pace.

Race 7-Epsom: I respect Palentino, Hauraki, Mackintosh,
McCreery and even Fabrizio but I feel the class horse is No.4 Happy Clapper.
Didn't look like he was 'trying' last start and should be wound up today
and appreciate a solid tempo and firm track. Barrier one is a slight worry
as he likes galloping room but is at nice each way odds. u/p
Race 8-Metroplitan: There is not much between all of these. I do like
Antonio Giuseppe but he has been racing against inferior opposition. He
rates as high as most other runners but he is the only untapped runner.
If he can improve further he can win, otherwise he'll be in a blanket finish
The 'class' surprisingly is No.1 Who Shot Thebarman who at his best would win
this but not sure I'll be rushing in to have a bet here.
Race 9- I didn't like English's run last time and willing to go around her.
Kaepernick and Southern Legend show promise and are lightly raced and
decided on No.12 Southern Legend despite the wide draw as I feel his form is
slightly stronger. u/p

Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington
Hard to bet against Black Heart Bart. I've always been a fan of Alpine Eagle and he is at decent EW odds.
Practically his last chance to show something and to correct his bad racing manners.
The Group 1 Golden Rose is at Rosehill. Astern looks to have the best form
but there is a slight doubt on his breeding to stay 1400m. Omei Sword rates lower but no doubt on distance.
Yankee Rose is the unknown as 1st up and hard to transfer 2yo form to 3yo.
